| The
Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) is a new initiative to be
launched by the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency
(VOSA) in 2003. The scheme has been developed to help
fight car crime by deterring criminals from stealing cars
and passing them off as repaired accident damage ones.
From
the 7th April 2003 all accident damaged and / or substantially
repaired cars notified to the DVLA must pass a vehicle
identity check before they can be returned to the road.
Current
documentation available on the scheme includes the following:
Application
for a Vehicle Identity Check
A consultation paper released by the Department for
Transport (DfT) about VIC.
A leaflet produced by VOSA, DVLA and DfT which is
available as a PDF.
A DfT press release about the VIC scheme from the
18th September 2002 is also available.
A list of VOSA Testing Stations that will be carrying
out VIC inspections.
